Research Awards

The executive of the Society for Pastoral Counselling Research has inaugurated four research awards in order to foster research in pastoral counselling, to acknowledge the research contributions of those who have diligently worked in the field for a considerable part of their career, and to encourage graduate students to continue to include research as a significant component of their pastoral activities and commitments. The four research awards, first introduced on November 19, 1996, are:

  1. Dissertation Award
  2. Junior Career Research Award
  3. Senior Career Research Award, and
  4. Distinguished Career Research Award.

The four awards reflect the progression of a researcher beginning with his/her dissertation, then establishing him/herself as a researcher, followed by defining an area of research for in-depth study, and lastly developing internationally based vehicles (journal, centre, society) to create a community of researchers.

These are recognition awards, not monetary awards. The awards are granted for excellence in research and/or for providing leadership in creating vehicles at the international level to foster a community of researchers. The awards will be presented to the successful nominee at the annual SPCR conference. Each award will be presented on the condition that a candidate fulfills the eligibility requirements. These awards will not necessarily be presented each year.

Members in good standing with SPCR are eligible to submit nominations for the awards as they are offered. The criteria for nomination for an award and a nomination form may be obtained in writing to the President of SPCR, the Chairperson of the Awards Committee.

The Awards Committee is composed of the President, Past-President, and President-Elect. The President is the Chairperson of the committee. The decision of the Committee is final.

You are to submit your nomination for an award by no later than February 28, in the year the award is offered, to the President of SPCR, the Chairperson of the Awards Committee.
